OPM RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING FEDERAL COMMUNITIES FOR
GENEROSITY IN LOCAL CHARITY DRIVES

Washington, D.C. -- Office of Personnel Management Director Jim King today announced the names of 12 local campaigns that will receive awards during the Second Annual Combined Federal Campaign National Recognition Program. The awards are given for the increased participation and charitable donations of federal employees, servicemen and women, and postal employees.

The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is the federal government's annual workplace charity drive. In 1992, 2.2 million contributors donated about $200 million to thousands of charitable organizations, nationwide.

"It gives me great pleasure to honor federal employees across the country for their generous and compassionate response to those in need," said Jim King.

"It is clear that whenever Americans are in distress, federal employees are willing to pitch in," continued Mr. King, referring to the federal response to the Midwest flooding. OPM authorized the early start-up of the annual CFC, giving federal employees the opportunity to make contributions to disaster relief organizations providing services to flood ravished areas.

The 12 award-winning campaigns were selected from 500 local campaigns, and divided into four groups according to the amount of the previous year's contributions. Awards are being presented in three categories: highest dollar increase, highest percentage dollar increase, and largest average gift contribution in 1992.

The awards ceremony will be held on August 26 at 2 p.m. in the Pendleton Room at the Office of Personnel Management, 1900 E Street, NW.

This year's award winners are:
