White House Appointee, OPM Director Janice Lachance to Conduct Palm Desert Roundtable Discussion on Womens Issues

Washington, D.C. -- The White House Office for Womens Initiatives and Outreach is hosting a roundtable discussion in Palm Desert with women from the region to gain their unique insights and recommendations.

Appointed by President Clinton to the post of Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Janice R. Lachance will serve as host for the discussion. The event will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, August 17, in the Palm Desert Library Community Room, 73300 Fred Waring Drive.

The roundtable being held here is part of a national womens outreach initiative called At the Table, which is sponsored by the White House Office for Womens Initiatives and Outreach. The office was created by President Bill Clinton. Following each roundtable, a report is sent to the White House for the benefit of the President, Vice President Al Gore, and other officials of the Clinton/Gore Administration. The purpose of the roundtables is to give women around the nation an opportunity to more directly share their concerns and ideas with the White House.

Director Lachance will also attend and address the Federal Dispute Resolution Conference being held in Indian Wells on August 17. Media members who wish to interview Ms. Lachance August 16 or 17, or obtain a list of invitees, should contact Mike Orenstein at 202-606-1800 or via email at mworenst@opm.gov.
