Washington, D.C. -- As the nation ages, so too does the federal workforce.
Statistics indicate that the average age of full-time federal employees is 45, while the average age of their parents is 80 years old.
As a result of these phenomena, U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Janice R. Lachance will open a conference for a discussion on challenges of federal employees as they become caregivers in the next century.
EVENT: | "Celebrating the International Year of Older Persons: Meeting the Challenges of a New Millennium" |
WHEN: | Wednesday, April 28, 1999 |
TIME: | 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
PLACE: | U.S. Office of Personnel Management Conference Room 1350 1900 E Street, NW Washington, DC 20415 |
At the conference, Lachance will discuss administration initiatives such as worksite caregiver support groups and long-term care insurance. Also, Jeanette Takamura, Assistant Secretary for the Administration on Aging, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will address conference participants.
Participants will have an opportunity to attend workshops to learn about resources available to assist older persons and visit elder care exhibits in OPMs E Street Lobby.
Media wishing to attend the conference must receive advance clearance by contacting Mary Ann Maloney (202) 606-2402. Federal agency representatives interested in attending the conference should contact Ms. Iris Beale on (202) 606-5520.
