Washington, D.C. -- Federal employees thinking about making a career change, taking an educational hiatus, moving to the private sector, or retiring to that favorite fishing hole will benefit from a special broadcast of the U.S. Office of Personnel Managements satellite series.
Stepping Out of Your Federal Career will address professional and personal options -- such as transitioning to the private sector or becoming a government consultant -- available to employees. The successful, personal accounts of two former federal employees -- one who moved to the private sector, and one who started a business -- will be broadcast features.
And for employees contemplating retirement or a temporary leave from the labor market to pursue an avocation or special interest, there will be presentations on health and life insurance benefits, financial planning and the Thrift Savings Plan. In addition, several Internet sites oriented toward the interests of current and former federal workers will be featured.
The broadcast will include a taped segment with Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala and Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis promoting the National Organ and Tissue Donation Initiative.
