Albuquerque NWR Program Schedule

Watches/Warnings/Advisories  

Watches, warnings and advisories are broadcast when hazardous weather threatens. Severe Thunderstorm, Tornado, and Flash Flood warnings and Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado watches are broadcast immediately after they are issued. If you can pick up the NOAA Weather Radio signal reliably, this is the quickest way for you to receive watches and warnings affecting your area. Various other warnings and advisories are broadcast as needed, including wind advisories and high wind warnings, winter storm watches and warnings, freeze warnings and civil emergency messages.

Hazardous Weather Outlook  

Aired continuously. Issued around 6 am daily, and updated as required.

The hazardous weather outlook details possible weather hazards and their potential impact for the entire seven day forecast period. It is used as a "heads up" and can be a first stop to find potential hazardous weather, its timing, its location and its impacts.

The Local Forecast   

Aired continuously. Forecasts are issued daily around 4 am and 4 pm and are updated as required.

The local forecast airs around the clock, except when a warning is in effect.  The local forecast will then be removed from the programming cycle to allow pertinent information to be delivered concurrently with the hazardous weather conditions.

The local forecasts make up a Zone Forecast Package which the meteorologist prepares.  Numerous local forecasts may be broadcast from one transmitter, since the signal can cover a large area over which varying weather conditions often occur . If you can pick up the NOAA Weather Radio signal reliably, then you have access to National Weather Service forecasts for your area.

The Extended Forecast   

The extended forecast is broadcast around the clock, except when a warning is in effect, much like the local forecast. The extended forecast covers the 4 to 7 day time period.  The extended forecast is included in the Zone Forecast product.

Hourly Weather Conditions   

Hourly weather conditions are broadcast on the hour, every hour.  Each of the seven transmitters broadcast an area-specific roundup that includes observations in the immediate listening area and regional observations, usually along major roadways and neighboring states. 

State Weather Summary

Aired between 530 and 830 am and 530 pm and 830 pm.

The Weather Summary for New Mexico is prepared by our meteorologists twice a day. It provides listeners with an overview of the state's recent weather, along with highlights and noteworthy weather news across New Mexico.

The Short-Term Forecast

Aired at various times, updates range from every half hour to every three hours.

The National Weather Service issues a Short Term Forecast to keep you updated on expected weather conditions during the near term.

Climate Products  

If you listen to the Albuquerque, Des Moines or Roswell transmitter, a climate summary of the previous day for Albuquerque, Clayton, or Roswell, respectively, is broadcast around 2 am for six hours. This is also updated in the evening around 630pm for Albuquerque for the current day.

Warnings and Watches are broadcast immediately on NOAA Weather Radio and will affect the normal programming cycle.
