OPM Director to Address the Need for Outreach Efforts Aimed at College Students

Washington, D.C. – On Monday, April 22, at a forum at George Washington University, the Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Kay Coles James, will address the need for a strong civil service. She also will stress the federal government’s desire to recruit the "best and the brightest."

The speech will be a part of the launch of an innovative program entitled A Call to Serve: Leaders in Education Allied for Public Service, which is co-sponsored by OPM and the Partnership for Public Service. The initiative will involve hundreds of institutions of higher learning across the country in an effort to highlight to their students the outstanding career opportunities available in the federal government. There will be plenty of room for these graduates in the near future since up to 50% of the current federal work force will reach retirement age within the next five years.

In addition to Director James, Members of Congress and presidents of colleges and universities from around the country will be present to show their support for the initiative.
