OPM INTRODUCES THE NEW INTERAGENCY PLACEMENT PROGRAM
Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. Office of Personnel Management introduced its new Interagency Placement Program (IPP) today to help federal employees who are affected by downsizing and restructuring.
The IPP has special features to help employees who have been or will be separated by reduction in force, as well as agencies who are filling positions. The program replaces the Displaced Employee Program and the Interagency Placement Assistance Program.
The new program:
- provides agencies with quality candidates who have been pre-screened by the employee's personnel office;
- gives agencies access to IPP registrants and their qualifications summaries via telephone and refers candidate lists immediately via facsimile machine;
- allows registrants to be considered for up to three job series in up to five geographic locations.
Employees registered in IPP receive special employment consideration over applicants who do not have federal status. Agencies must consult the IPP inventory before filling positions with non-status candidates, ensuring that program registrants receive maximum consideration for jobs in other agencies.
OPM has provided federal agencies with information about the new program. OPM also has posted material on its electronic Federal Job Opportunity Bulletin Board which is available at no cost to anyone who has access to a personal computer and a modem. The IPP information can be retrieved from the Policy and Operations Staffing Headquarters or OPM Main Street at (912) 757-3100. Agency personnel staff are available to answer questions from employees.
