OPM Issues Surveys Detailing Employee Feedback from First Annual Federal Workforce Conference

Washington, DC - As a part of its promise to keep federal employees informed, the U.S. Office of Personnel has issued the results of two intercept surveys conducted during its First Annual Federal Workforce Conference: Working for America. Both surveys indicate an overall satisfaction with the conference, particularly with the presentations on Human Resources issues and challenges facing the federal workforce.

"The survey indicates a majority of attendees found the conference extremely helpful, with presentations on the President's Management Agenda, strategic alignment and results-oriented culture being the most informative," said OPM Director Kay Coles James. "The results also indicate Federal employee satisfaction in working for their nation is very high."

Survey findings specify that among respondents, the Federal government:

  • Provides a sense of patriotism and pride in working for their country (95% of respondents agreed)
  • Provides competitive benefits (94% agreed)
  • Provides opportunities for advancement (93% agreed)
  • Provides competitive salary (80% agreed)

In addition, respondents said the three goals they hoped to achieve at the conference included learning about the "issues and challenges facing the federal workforce," understanding ways to "improve human resources in my agency or department" and having the chance to "meet other human capital professionals."

The conference was the largest ever hosted by OPM and was created to give federal HR professionals a forum to discuss issues facing the federal workforce. In addition, the conference gave participants a platform to address the strategic management of human capital and to network with HR officials from across the federal government.

The conference agenda included six plenary sessions, over 100 workshops and more than 200 speakers. It also featured six tracks of study, designed so attendees could attend meetings across the tracks or within the areas of study.
