OPM Sponsors Federal Employment Job Fair at George Mason University
Congressman Tom Davis, Partnership for Public Service lend support
Washington - The United States Office of Personnel Management will sponsor a federal employment job fair on October 25, 2005 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
The fair will begin at 10:00 a.m. with opening remarks from Dr. Alan Merten, President of George Mason University and Linda M. Springer, Director of the Office of Personnel Management, followed by Congressman Tom Davis (R-VA-11th). Following Congressman Davis' remarks, federal agency exhibit booths will open and will remain open until 3:00 p.m.
"OPM continues to lead the governmentwide effort to bring the best and brightest into the federal workforce," said OPM Director Springer. "These job fairs are a critical component of our ongoing efforts to ensure the federal workforce remains one of the best in the world."
The most significant aspect of this job fair will be the focus on employment opportunities in two of the Federal government's mission critical occupations, engineering and information technology. A seminar entitled "Where the Jobs Are" will be presented by the Partnership for Public Service. The program also includes an OPM-sponsored workshop, "Federal Employment Opportunities." Several other useful activities will be offered at the job fair, including a workshop that will provide tips on resume writing and successful interviewing techniques.
OPM Director Springer has urged all agency and department Chief Human Capital Officers across the Federal government to participate in the job fair and to exercise their hiring flexibilities, such as direct hiring authority, to make on-the-spot job offers. OPM will advertise the recruitment fair across the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area.
