HENRY ROMERO NAMED ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF NEW
WORKFORCE COMPENSATION AND PERFORMANCE SERVICE

Washington, D.C. -- Henry Romero has been named Associate Director of the newly-established Workforce Compensation and Performance Service at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Janice Lachance, OPMs Acting Director, selected Romero for the post based on his extensive government experience with human resource issues. At present, Romero is the Director of Personnel for the Department of Justice. (The Workforce Compensation and Performance Service opens for business next month.)

In his new role, Romero will oversee the development of federal pay and compensation strategies conducive to maintaining a highly productive workforce.

Said Janice Lachance on the appointment: Henry is extraordinarily qualified to develop pay and compensation strategies that are in line with the Administrations budget priorities, and at the same time help agencies maintain a highly productive workforce.

As the Justice Departments personnel director, Romero directs a comprehensive personnel management program for 106,000 employees. Before that, as the Associate Director of the Defense Civilian Personnel Management Service in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, he managed an expanded array of personnel services resulting from a consolidation of DOD personnel and EEO functions.

A former member of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navys Advisory Council on Hispanic Employment, Romero has received numerous awards, including the Navy Departments Meritorious Civilian Service Award and an EEO award for his support of the Federal Womens Program.

Romero holds a bachelors degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a masters degree in public administration from San Diego State University.
