OPM Receives Training Officers Conference Award for e-Training

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has received the 2003 Training Officers Conference Learning Technology Award for its e-Training Initiative/Gov Online Learning Center. The award was given for significant accomplishments integrating emerging training and learning technologies, at the recent Training Officers Conference Distinguished Service Awards ceremony which recognizes individuals and agencies making significant contributions to the federal training community in the field of human resource development.

"It is critical for agencies to utilize available learning technology tools to develop a world-class work force necessary to provide the public with world-class service," remarked OPM Director Kay Coles James. "Technology allows us to deliver the right kind of training, at the right time, to the right people."

Currently, there are 51,000 registered Gov Online users and over 24,000 course completions. Thirty-seven free courses are available on the site with more than 2000 courses available on a fee-for-service basis. A major enhancement is scheduled to take place next month.

The e-Training Initiative/Gov Online Learning Center supports the career development of the federal work force by unifying, simplifying, and increasing access to high quality e-Training products and services that advance the accomplishments of agency missions. "We saw the opportunity to develop a tool that would assist in work force skill development," said OPM e-Government Program Manager Norm Enger, "and we wanted this tool to support the president's human capital initiatives."
