NEWS ADVISORY
Editors: Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Janice R. Lachance will hold a joint press conference to announce a 10-point plan that can be used as a model to improve Hispanic representation in the federal governments workforce.
The press conference will be held on Thursday, October 8, at the House Triangle, the east grounds of the U.S. Capitol, at 10 a.m.
The 10-point plan is part of a Hispanic Employment Initiative put forward by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Last year, Lachance called on all federal agencies to recognize the need to assure equality in federal employment. OPM statistics show that Hispanics comprise 6.2 percent of the federal workforce, but they represent 11 percent of the civilian labor force. In fact, Hispanics are the only minority group whose participation in the federal governments workforce falls short of their representation in the civilian labor force.
As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that the federal government is representative of the peoples of this nation, and in so doing, that we hire the most qualified individuals in our communities to serve all the American people, said Lachance.
Members of the media are cordially invited to attend this important event.
