OPM Deputy Director Presents the 1998 National CFC Awards Following Record Campaign

Washington, D.C.--Winners of the 1998 National Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Awards were honored today by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) at a ceremony at the agencys headquarters. OPM Deputy Director John Sepulveda made the presentation which was held in conjunction with Public Service Recognition Week.

Time and time again, the federal community demonstrates compassion and concern by contributing generously to the Combined Federal Campaign, Sepulveda said. In 1998 federal employees and military personnel pledged $206 million to CFC charities. This number is up from $197 million in 1997 and it is the highest total ever pledged during an annual campaign. We are pleased to be able to recognize those organizations which have achieved extraordinary results in the 98 campaign. The CFC is the federal governments annual charity drive, and the only solicitation permitted in the federal workplace.

The CFC was established in 1961 as a way to consolidate many informal charity solicitations into one organized charity drive. The campaign is the only government-authorized solicitation of employees in the federal workplace on behalf of charitable organizations. It continues to be the largest and most successful workplace fundraising model in the world.

CFC campaigns across the country were honored in one of four categories recognizing the efforts of the thousands of federal employees contributing to the 1998 CFC campaign. Representatives were in Washington to accept the award. The winners and categories are:
