Deputy Director of OPM Addresses the Importance
of President Bush's Management Agenda

Washington, DC - The Deputy Director of the US Office of Personnel Management, Dan Blair, discussed the importance of implementing aspects of the President's Management Agenda, during a panel discussion at the annual Federal Office Systems Exposition. FOSE is the nation's largest information technology exposition specifically intended for the federal government.

"Let me assure you that we at OPM are serious and focused about achieving the goal of making the federal government responsive to the American public," said Blair. "And to do this, OPM will assist agencies as they restructure and engage in succession planning to address the pending retirement wave. We must ensure that we have a cadre of qualified and results-oriented employees in the pipeline so that we can meet the challenges of tomorrow." And meeting the challenges presented by the agenda means reshaping the federal government with aggressive leadership and concepts from the private sector that will benefit the way government works.

During recent remarks, the Director of OPM, Kay Coles James, also voiced her support for the agenda. "Over the past two months, OPM and OMB have worked in partnership to train over 500 senior managers on the flexibilities that already exist. However, more needs to be done and the President's Management Agenda does just that; it provides a vital step toward giving federal agencies the additional tools they need."

Currently, the agenda is being evaluated by the US Senate.

OPM also supports U.S. agencies with personnel services and policy leadership including staffing tools, guidance on labor-management relations and programs to improve work force performance.
