OPM Director Kay Coles James Brings Nationwide Recruitment Fairs to Albuquerque

Recruitment Fairs to Build a Stronger Federal Workforce With the Best and the Brightest

Washington, DC - U. S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Kay Coles James today continued a series of 11 diversity recruitment fairs during the Public Service Career Showcase at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

"The goal of the recruitment fairs is to provide opportunities for federal agencies to showcase current vacancies available locally and nationwide and link with qualified candidates for these positions," James said. "The fairs also introduce those responsible for hiring, taking applications from and following-up to motivated Americans who are ready to serve their nation."

The recruitment fair featured more than 30 separate federal agencies and over 15,000 Federal career opportunities nationwide. A list of agency participants and positions can be seen at the OPM.gov website by clicking on the USAJobs link or by going directly to USAJobs.opm.gov.

"It is no longer good enough to simply rest on our laurels and expect the best candidates to come to us for a job. We must go out and actively recruit a diverse federal workforce," stated Director James. "Though our Working for America recruitment fair initiative we are doing just that. This is a priority of President Bush as outlined in his Management Agenda and it is my personal mission to ensure its success."

The recruitment fairs highlight the Federal government's many career opportunities and the varied fields of interest available to applicants. They also showcase the U.S. government as an employer of first choice and an equal opportunity employer.

OPM initiated the recruitment fairs to help other Federal agencies in their efforts to identify talent and recruit America's best and brightest. Each agency that participates in a fair has been asked to track resulting offers and new hires.
