OPM Director Lachance To Address Maine Elected Officials and Students on Presidents State of the Union and Future of Federal Workforce

Editors: U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Janice R. Lachance will talk to Maine elected officials and college students about quality education, long term care, and the increasingly global economy as a follow up to President Clintons State of the Union Address to be delivered on January 19. Congressman Thomas Allen (D-ME) will be joining Lachance during this event to be held at the Portland Museum of Art on Thursday, January 21, at 1:30 p.m.

Lachance is a native of Biddeford, Maine. She was appointed as Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) by President Clinton in 1997. During the forum, Lachance also will comment on the future of the federal workforce, the use of technology in training and education, and other measures.

OPM is the human resources agency of the federal government. As OPM Director, Lachance has been instrumental in improving labor-management relations, promoting diversity in the federal workforce, and implementing initiatives that would lead to greater efficiencies in government.

Maine elected officials, community leaders, and students and faculty from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine are expected to attend this forum.

Members of the media are cordially invited to attend this event. TV crews may set up their equipment by 1:15 p.m.
