Through the Comprehensive Mine Safety and Health Program operated through the Department of Engineering and Design at Eastern Washington University, the State of Washington provides a health and safety training program for mine personnel. The program is designed to assist miners and mine operators comply with the specific training requirements of the Mine Act of 1977. It supplements, rather than supplants, the required safety and health training with the degree of assistance based on the ability of the mine operators to provide such training. Specifically, the intent of the program is to raise safety interest and awareness among miners, mine operators and contractors.

Health and safety training classes include:

  • 30 CFR Parts 46 and 48 New Miner Training (underground and surface);
  • 30 CFR Parts 46 and 48 Annual Refresher Training (underground and surface); and
  • MSHA Approved Instructor Training.
