Through Vincennes University, miners from coal, stone, quarry, and cement mining operations may receive on-shift training conducted by experienced MSHA approved instructors. Training location is determined by the mining company. Since Indiana has coal as well as various metal and nonmetal mines, the State's training program has approved lesson plans that address all industries. Curriculum includes:

  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 New Miner Training;
  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 Annual Refresher;
  • 30 CFR, parts 46 and 48 Newly Hired Experienced Miner;
  • Silicosis Prevention;
  • Independent Contractors; and
  • First Aid and CPR.

The University conducts mine health and safety classes for the coal and metal and nonmetal industries. Topics addressed include Fall Protection, Noise and Noise Protections, Hazardous Materials, Smoking, Tobacco, Contractor Issues, Welding Safety, Overhead Powerlines and CSX railroads.
