The Connecticut program, through the Central Connecticut State University, educates, trains, and retrains miners employed in the public and private sectors in the State in order to reduce injuries and occupational illnesses, and eliminate fatalities. It assists mine operators in developing safety and health programs, and is a training material resource.  Topics for instruction are based upon Connecticut and National injury/illness statistics and MSHA targeted areas.  The priority topics for 30 CFR Parts 46 and 48 are:

• Power Haulage;
• Prevention of Silicosis;
• Machinery;
• Hand and Power Tools;
• Prevention of Hearing Loss;
• Material handling;
• State and Federal Law including "Miners' Rights";
• Accident Prevention, especially Slips, Trips and Falls;
• First Aid/CPR;
• Mine Health including Silicosis and Hearing Loss;
• Ground Control/Stock Piles; and
• Hazard Recognition.
