    Cruise Ship's Corrective Action Statement

Item No.: 08
Site: Galley-Deck 4
Violation: There was water dripping continuously from the intermediate atmospheric vent on the backflow prevention device for combination oven 4811.048.007. This was corrected.
Recommendation: Ensure that backflow preventers are maintained in good repair.

Site: Potable Water-Deck 7 Aft Whirlpool Machinery Room
Violation: The recirculation lines from the compensation tank were striped blue.
Recommendation: Remove the striping and ensure that only potable water lines are striped blue.

Site: Potable Water-Cross-Connection Control Program
Violation: The backflow prevention device between the carbonator and the brass fitting on the multi-flow units were not included on the list of backflow prevention devices.
Recommendation: Ensure that the cross-connection control program includes at minimum: a complete listing of cross-connections and the backflow prevention method/device for each, so that there is a match to the plumbing system component and location.

Site: Potable Water-Deck 0 Changing Room
Violation: The backflow prevention device installed on the washing machine was a non-continuous pressure device. There was a valve controlling the water flow in the washing machine.
Recommendation: Ensure that a continuous pressure-type backflow preventer is installed when a valve is located downstream from the backflow preventer.

Violation: There was a non-continuous pressure device installed on the hose at the sink. There was a sprayer connection on the hose.

Site: Housekeeping-
Violation: From July until October, the ship was sailing on 9 and 5 day cruises. The in-cabin whirlpool tubs were only disinfected on embarkation day. During the last 2 cruises that were greater than 7 days, the whirlpool tubs were disinfected during the correct frequency.
Recommendation: Ensure that private whirlpool spas located in individual passenger cabins are cleaned and disinfected, including associated recirculation systems, between occupancies or weekly, whichever is more frequent.

Violation: A bowl of powdered sugar and a bowl of cinnamon sugar were not under the sneeze shield or otherwise protected.
Recommendation: Ensure that food on display is protected from contamination by the use of packaging; counter, service line, or salad bar food guards; display cases; or other effective means.

Recommendation: Ensure that working containers holding food or food ingredients that are removed from their original packages for use on the vessel, such as cooking oils, flour, herbs, potato flakes, salt, spices, and sugar are identified with the common name of the food.

Violation: There were no side shields at the end of the buffet lines where crew members line up for service.

Violation: There was excessive sealant on the front and sides of the fryers in the Windjammer galley, deck 4 and 5 main galleys, crew galley and Solarium galley.

Violation: There was liquid dripping from the deckhead panel to the deck. There was also liquid pooling in the deckhead light cover adjacent to the Meiko control panel.
Recommendation: Ensure that ventilation hood systems and devices are sufficient in number and capacity to prevent grease or condensation from collecting on bulkheads and deckheads.

Violation: There were two small non-flying insects in the technical compartment of bain marie 4811.046.020.
Recommendation: Ensure that the presence of insects, rodents, and other pests is effectively controlled to minimize their presence in the food storage, preparation, service areas, warewashing, and utensil storage areas aboard a vessel.

Violation: The times for the active monitoring for pests, specifically the night-time monitoring, was not consistently recorded.
Recommendation: Ensure that the Integrated Pest Management Plan sets a schedule for periodic monitoring inspections including some at night.

Violation: There was no child-size toilet or child-size toilet seat in the children's area.
Recommendation: Ensure that a child-size toilet is provided if toilet rooms are located in a child-activity center.
