1An active pilot is a person who holds a pilot certificate and a
valid medical certificate issued within the last 25 months.
2Includes pilots with an airplane only certificate and those with
an airplane and a helicopter and/or glider certificate.
3Includes helicopter, glider, and recreational pilots. Does not
include pilots holding an airplane certificate. A recreational pilot may fly no
more than one passenger in a light, single engine aircraft with no more than four
seats during good weather and daylight hours and, unless authorized, no more than
50 miles from the home airport.
4Not included in total. A flight instructor must hold a flight instructor
certificate in addition to a pilot certificate.
NOTE: Excludes U.S. military personnel holding civilian certificates
who are stationed in a foreign country and pilots in U.S. territories.
