Grounfish Survey Coverage

Map showing groundfish survey coverage, from California to the North Bering Sea The AFSC Groundfish Assessment Program conducts groundfish assessment surveys off the coast of California north to the Bering Sea. Bottom trawl asssessment surveys for groundfish and king and Tanner crabs occur annually in the eastern Bering Sea in cooperation with the AFSC Shellfish Assessment Program. Longline surveys of sablefish abundance are conducted in the Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands region and the Gulf of Alaska in cooperation with the AFSC's Auke Bay Laboratory. Annual surveys are conducted off the West Coast slope for sablefish, Dover sole, and thrornyhead rockfish. Major triennial surveys are conducted; for groundfish resources in the Aleutian Islands region, Gulf of Alaska, off the West Coast, and in portions of the eastern Bering Sea not included in the annual groundfish/crab assessment survey.
