Professional Organizations Sign Cooperative Agreement [November 20, 2008]

The American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA), The American Society of Appraisers (ASA), and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding at ASFMRA’s 79th Annual Meeting held on November 11-14, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. [more…]

International Farm Management Congress [November 18, 2008]

Registration is now open for IFMA17, the International Farm Management Congress scheduled for July 19-24, 2009 in Bloomington, IL. Your hosts are the members of the Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers and the entire membership of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. Your host cities are Bloomingon/Normal, Illinois, and they are ready to roll out the red carpet in welcoming you when you come to visit in July 2009. The International Farm Management Association asked the Illinois Society to become involved with this Congress over four years ago. Since that time the members and officers of the organization have been working at develop a program that really does promise to be a once-in-a-career event….from the speakers to the tours to the hospitality. The Pre- and Post-Congress tours will give delegates an opportunity to see the tremendous geographic diversity of Illinois as well as witness first-hand the diversity of agriculture in the “Land of Lincoln.” [more…]

Section 1619 Update [November 17, 2008]

During the 2008 ASFMRA Board of Directors Meeting in San Antonio, the Board passed the following resolution on section 1619: Whereas the Food and Security Act of 2008 (Farm Bill) contains Section 1619, which poses unintended barriers to the proper analysis of farmland for real estate appraisers and other professionals within the agricultural sector. We believe this is detrimental to the safety and soundness of agricultural lending and agriculture as a whole. Resolved: That ASFMRA will seek a legislative or administrative resolution to this issue. [more…]
