The Marine Ecology and Stock Assessment (MESA) Program staff conducts fishery surveys and field studies in Alaska. Field research ranges from small boat day trips in protected waters of Southeast Alaska to three-week offshore cruises aboard NOAA vessels and chartered commercial fishing vessels. Most research is intended to monitor fish populations, collect biological data samples, or to support stock assessments of groundfish in Alaska.
