About Partners for Restoring Coastal Louisiana
Partners for Restoring Coastal Louisiana (PRCL) is
comprised of government, academic, and advocacy groups
who have been involved in developing coastal restoration
programs, policy, and science within Louisiana for over
twenty years. PRCL recognizes the significant role that
communities can play in coastal restoration and acknowledges
that restoration is best implemented when technical
and monetary support are provided to projects with strong
community buy-in. PRCL’s objective is to bring
together citizen groups, public and non-profit organizations,
watershed groups, industry, businesses, youth conservation
groups, students, landowners, and academics as well
as local, state and federal agencies to cooperatively
implement coastal restoration projects.
About the Partnership
The NOAA/Partners for Restoring Coastal Louisiana
partnership was established between the NOAA Community-based
Restoration Program and Louisiana Department of Natural
Resources in 2004 and emphasizes small-scale, community-led
restoration in the coastal areas of Louisiana. This
year, $200,000 will be made available by NOAA
and PRCL to enable local communities to plan and implement
coastal restoration projects in Louisiana and to generate
a conservation ethic for valuable marine resources.
The funds will be used to support grass-roots efforts
to restore salt marshes, seagrass beds, oyster reefs,
mangrove forests, and shellfish beds, as well as many
other unique and essential fish habitats. These efforts
are essential to the life cycles of living marine resources
and essential to improve the health and productivity
of the Louisiana coast.
Request For Proposals
NOAA partners with the Louisiana Department of Natural
Resources to fund coastal projects benefitting critical
fish habitats in coastal Louisiana. Any qualified individual,
organization, institution, or government agency is
eligible to apply. Organizations that have project
ideas should contact Maury Chatellier (maury.chatellier@la.gov)
or NOAA’s Community-based Restoration Program
staff to discuss components of the project. During
open announcements, applications should be directed
to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources.
