About The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is an international, non-profit
organization dedicated to preserving the plants, animals,
and natural communities that represent the diversity
of life on earth by protecting the lands and waters
they need to survive. Using a collaborative, science-based
approach to conservation, The Nature Conservancy, and
its partners, identify the areas that need to be protected
to ensure biological diversity. The Nature Conservancy’s
Marine Initiative aims to improve existing marine conservation
efforts by developing new and innovative approaches
and tools that will link efforts across land and sea.
About the Partnership
The Nature Conservancy/NOAA Habitat Restoration Partnership began in 2001. The shared goal of the projects funded under this partnership are to protect marine biodiversity though habitat restoration with an emphasis on science, community-based cooperation, and strong collaboration. Since 2001, over $4,000,000 of NOAA funds and $4,800,000 in funding and in-kind match from TNC have supported more than 70 projects in 15 states throughout the country.
Request For Proposals
Projects are solicited through a Request for Proposals circulated by The Nature Conservancy and are selected on a competitive basis. The project applicant should be a local TNC Chapter, or working in close coordination with a local TNC chapter. Projects should also be linked to a TNC priority conservation area as identified in TNC’s marine ecoregional planning process or identified as a high priority by the state or territorial TNC chapter. Projects are also expected to include significant community involvement and engage project partners. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact NOAA’s Community-based Restoration Program staff to discuss project ideas prior to submitting an application.
