Director, Knowledge Management Staff

Barbara Pearson is Director of the Knowledge Management Staff of the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. The Knowledge Management (KM) Staff creates and maintains accessible and diverse information required by TTB’s external and internal customers in the areas of knowledge management, the Internet and Intranet, document services, records management, writing and editing, contract performance services, and the Bureau library and information service (BLIS).

Ms. Pearson most recently worked at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science as Associate Dean for External Relations, managing a staff that oversaw the school’s public relations, event planning and execution, alumni relations, development, and Web site management. She also helped to develop the first High Dependability Computing Consortium with Carnegie Mellon, more than a dozen prominent high-tech companies, and NASA Ames.

As a manager, Ms. Pearson has worked in marketing and communications within the high-tech industry for 20 years, and was one of the first employees developing the online Prodigy Service—pre-World Wide Web! She has also marketed online mutual funds, electronic commerce, computer-aided engineering and a patented technology within interactive games. She began her career as a Sears Catalog Copywriter, next worked in bank marketing, and then joined the non-profit National Energy Education Day (NEED) Project out of Reston, VA.

Ms. Pearson has two daughters—Keri and Meredith, and a new granddaughter, Lianni Giselle
