Scientists are particularly interested in Saturn's moon Titan because it's one of the few known moons with its own dense atmosphere. Titan's atmosphere is also thought to be very similar to what Earth's atmosphere was a long time ago. By learning about Titan, we'll learn about our own planet.

Rocks Tell Stories in Reports of Spirit's First 90 Martian Days

Scientific findings from the NASA rover Spirit's first three months on Mars were released last Friday, marking the start of a flood of peer-reviewed discoveries in scientific journals from the continuing two-rover adventure. Meanwhile, Opportunity continues to creep across the floor of Endurance Crater, returning images of the dunes that cover the crater floor. Although NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers have both completed their primary objectives, NASA chose to extend their missions in early May.

Since landing on Mars, NASA's twin Mars Exploration Rovers have been searching for information about the history of water on Mars with great success. Spirit identified signs of repeated exposure to water on a rock inside Gusev Crater. Opportunity discovered evidence that it's own landing site, Meridiani Planum, was once drenched with water. Because life as we know it requires water to survive, understanding the history of water on Mars can tell scientists a great deal about the potential for past or present life on the Red Planet.
