Public Meeting to Address Agenda Items for the 20th Session of the Codex Committee on Fats and Oils

WASHINGTON, Dec. 18, 2006 - The Office of the Under Secretary for Food Safety, U.S. Department
of Agriculture (USDA), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services, today announced a public meeting to provide information and receive public comments on agenda items
and draft U.S. positions that will be discussed at the 20th Session of the Codex Committee on Fats and Oils,
to be held from Feb. 19 - 23, 2007, in London, United Kingdom.
The public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, from 2 - 4 p.m., at the south end of the USDA cafeteria
located in the USDA South Agriculture Building, 1400 Independence Ave, SW, Washington, D.C. Pre-registration is not
necessary; however, all attendees must present a photo ID to gain admittance to the meeting.
Agenda items and documents related to the 20th Session of the CCFO will be available prior to the meeting at
www.codexalimentarius.net/current.asp.
Codex was created in 1963 by two United Nations organizations, the Food and Agriculture Organization and the
World Health Organization. Codex develops food standards, guidelines and codes of practice in order to protect
the health of consumers, ensure fair food trade practices and promote coordination of food standards undertaken
by international governmental and non-governmental organizations. The CCFO was established to elaborate codes,
standards and related texts for fats and oils.
