Geographic Region and Division The U.S. Bureau of the
Census groups the 50 States and the The Department of Commerce's
Bureau
of Economic Analysis (BEA) groups States into eight regions
based on their homogeneity with respect to income characteristics,
industrial composition of the employed labor force, and such noneconomic
factors as demographic, social, and cultural characteristics.
