Liberator History
The Consolidated B-24 Liberator, originally ordered for the United States Army Air Corps, were sent to the Royal Air Force of England during World War II. With its long range and heavy bombload capabilities, the B-24 bomber was chosen for combat against German submarines. These antisubmarine aircraft were fitted with radar and extended Britian's maritime reconnaissance efforts to an operating range of 2400 miles. German U-boats that had once operated in the Atlantic without fear of an attack from the air now were threatened. The B-24 Series was the most produced aircraft for action in World War II.
