Caribbean Council Overview

The Caribbean Fishery Management Council (CFMC) is one of eight regional fishery management councils created by the 1976 Magnuson Fisheries Conservation and Management Act, renamed Magnuson-Stevens Fisheries Conservation and Management Act in 1996, to manage living marine resources within that area.

The CFMC is responsible for the creation of management plans for fishery resources (FMPs) in Federal waters off Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands. These FMPS are for Corals and Reef Resources, Spiny Lobster, Reef Fish, and Queen Conch. The EFH descriptions and identifications for Caribbean FMPs were approved for 17 species on February 18th, 1999. This website is designed to inform viewers about these Caribbean EFH designations.

The CFMC main office is located at:

268 Muñoz Rivera Ave., Suite 1108
San Juan, Puerto Rico 00918 2577.
