How NMFS Uses GIS

Ecosystem Dynamics

One of NOAA Fisheries' biggest challenges is to model the interactions of biological and physical components of an ecosystem in addition to human activities from many different sectors. GIS is used for delineating sub-ecosystem boundaries, examining the spatial dynamics of food webs, and analyzing the response of fish stocks to oceanographic or climatic changes.
