Eligible/Ineligible Products*
- Eligible Product
- Fresh/frozen poultry and poultry products.
- Eligibility of fresh/frozen pork and pork products has not been
determined at this time. Exporters are advised to contact FSIS Technical
Service Center at (402) 344-5000 for assistance prior to exporting.
- Beef and beef products.
Documentation Requirements
- Certification Requirements
- Red meat and poultry products: Obtain FSIS Form 9060-5 Certificate for
Wholesomeness. Further, exporters are advised that importers must have a valid import permit
to allow entry of meat and poultry products. In the case of beef products, import permits
issued before November 24, 2004 reflect additional certification statements tht cannot be
provided by USDA. Exporters should work closely with Jamaican importers to assure that the proper import
permits have been obtained.
- Frozen, cured, and/or smoked red meat products - The following statement must
be typed in the "Remarks" section of FSIS Form 9060-5:
"The United States is free from foot and mouth disease."
- Poultry and Poultry products - The following statement should be typed
under "Remarks" of FSIS Form 9060-5:
"Product originated from farms that were not under quarantine and are
located 10 miles away from any affected farms or flocks."
- Beef and beef products - The following statements must be included in the "Remarks"
section of FSIS Form 9060-5 or provided on a letterhead certificate:
- The beef/beef products covered by the Veterinary Health Certificate were derived
from cattle slaughtered in the United States.
- The beef, beef products/by-products specified were derived from cattle which received
ante-mortem and post-mortem veterinary inspection at the time of slaughter in plants certified for
export of such products from the United States. The products must not be
adulterated or misbranded as defined by regulations governing meat inspection of the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA).
- The beef and beef products (bone-in or boneless) were derived from cattle that were slaughtered after
March 12, 2004 in accordance with USDA/FSIS regulations.
- The beef and beef products were not derived from cattle in which air-injection stunning devices were
used during slaughtering.
- The beef and beef products (bone-in or boneless) were not derived from and do not contain any of the
following Specified Risk Materials: brain, skull, eyes, trigeminal ganglia, spinal cord,
vertebral column (excluding the vertebrae of the tail, the transverse processes of thoracic
and lumber vertebrae and the wings of the sacrum) and the dorsal root ganglia,
from animals over 30 months of age at the time of slaughter and the tonsils and intestines
from pylorus to anus, or all animals regardless of age.
- The beef and beef products (bone-in or boneless) were not produced using the
Mechanically Separated Meat or Advanced Recovery Meat methods.
- The cattle from which the beef/beef products were derived have not been in contact with or
transported through a port in any country considered to be affected with Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD).
- The beef/beef products/by-products were not derived from cattle that were fed with meat meal, bone meal,
meat and bone meal or greaves of ruminant origin.
- The beef/beef products were produced in accordance with the U.S. National Residue and Analytic
Programme for residues (antibiotics, hormones, growth promoters, anabolic steroids, additives, etc.)
in meat, poultry and egg products. Acronized meat (meat containing antibiotics during processing) is
not allowed entry into Jamaica.
- The beef/beef products have been processed, stored and transported in a manner to preclude contact
with meat/animal products that do not comply with the conditions contained in the certificate.
- The beef/beef products were prepared, packaged and handled under hygienic and sanitary conditions
and are fit for human consumption.
Plants Eligible to Export
All Federally inspected establishments are eligible to export.
