Program Description
This mission of the United States Trustee Program is to protect and preserve the integrity of the bankruptcy system of the United States by regulating the conduct of parties, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and procedures, bringing civil actions to address instances of abuse, securing the just, speedy, and economical resolution of bankruptcy cases, and identifying, evaluating, referring and supporting the prosecution of criminal bankruptcy violations.

increase of 21 positions, 11 workyears, and $5,841,000 is requested to conduct
debtor audits.� The Program plans to develop systems to more effectively uncover
material misstatements in bankruptcy schedules and statements of financial affairs.�
The project involves collecting data from court filings in order to select cases
at random and to target other cases for audit.� Systems will be developed and
contractors will be hired to perform the audits.� The 21 additional positions
will provide financial analysts in field offices to oversee audits and analyze
the data; and $4,416,000 will fund approximately 2,000 audits. | |||

of $500,000 to fund a pilot program.� The program will� develop and publish a
curriculum to provide personal financial management instructions to a sample group
of bankruptcy debtors, and then evaluate the effectiveness of the program.� Evaluation
will measure the short-term and long-term effectiveness of the curriculum and
delivery methods in increasing personal financial skills and reducing the bankruptcy
