The Juvenile Justice Programs request also contains several important program initiatives:

Title V Tribal Youth Program 12,473 Provides funds for an array of prevention and intervention activities.
     
Title V Safe Schools 14,967 Includes $5.033 million for Project Sentry, which, when combined with $14.967 million requested under the COPS appropriation, provides a total of $20 million for grants for for this new initiative. The U.S. Attorneys are also requesting $9 million for Project Sentry. This program will create a new federal and state partnership establishing safe schools task forces across the country that will prosecute and supervise juveniles who violate federal firearms laws and those adults who illegally furnish firearms to them. This program will prosecute juveniles who carry or use guns, as well as the adults who provide them.
       
Title V Project ChildSafe 37,000 New initiative. When added to the $38 million requested under the Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant, it provides a total of $75 million for ChildSafe, a new program that will provide funds to ensure child safety locks are available for every handgun in America. OJP will provide $65 million annually to states and local governments on a dollar-for-dollar matching basis. Locks will be distributed by local municipalities, counties, or private organizations. The annual federal matching funds will also be available to match private contributions by organizations seeking to assist in the goal of providing locks for every handgun in America. An additional $10 million annually will be spent on administrative costs and advertising, including a national 800-number to make sure all parents are aware of the program.
