Scientists are particularly interested in Saturn's moon Titan because it's one of the few known moons with its own dense atmosphere. Titan's atmosphere is also thought to be very similar to what Earth's atmosphere was a long time ago. By learning about Titan, we'll learn about our own planet.

Shuttle Docks with Space Station; First Space walk Complete

Late Friday, Space Shuttle Atlantis docked with the International Space Station about 240 statute miles above the northeastern coast of South America. At midnight the hatch was opened, and the crew of Atlantis joined the space station crew to plan for the first of three space walks. From Saturday night to Sunday morning, Mission Specialists James Reilly and Michael Gernhardt successfully conducted a five-hour space walk to install the station's new airlock. Station crew member Susan Helms lifted the airlock from the cargo bay of Atlantis using the space station's robotic arm. The mission’s second space walk is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 3:05 p.m. Pacific (6:05 p.m. Eastern/22:05 GMT). The space walk will be webcast live by NASA TV and its mirror sites. Check the NASA TV schedule for details and updates. When complete, the International Space Station will permit never-before-possible research into how Earth life responds to living in space.
