NDMS Teams Provide Medical Support for Ford Funeral in Washington, DC


The National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) was activated to provide medical support for activities near the U.S. Capitol during to the Ford Funeral in Washington, DC. The activation occurred during the time period where NDMS was being transitioned from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and both agencies supported the mission.

Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMATs) from North Carolina (NC-1) and Virginia (VA-1) provided medical “strike” teams, logistical support was provided by teams based in New Jersey (NJ-1) and New York (NY-2) while the NDMS-1 team provided management support.

NDMS teams worked side by side with US Public Health Service Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) and Commissioned Corps Readiness Force (CCRF) personnel. It was the commencement of a new relationship, which will bolster the medical response capability of the nation.
