How It Works

As an employee, how do I use this service? How does the lender or creditor use this service?

Each employee is responsible for authorizing the release of their employment and salary information. The lender or creditor must receive an authorization code from you to access your information.
To obtain an authorization code:

From a touch-tone phone, call 1-800-367-2884 (NOTE: Do NOT give the employee 800 phone number to your lender or creditor) or to access via web click here.

Enter the following information:

Company Code number 10342

Your social security number

Your PIN number (Your PIN is a 4-digit number denoting the month and day of your birth. For example, January 15 = 0115)

Record the authorization code in a secure place for future reference.

There are three types of Verifications To access your employment information:

The lender or creditor will need the following information

One of your authorization codes

The lendor or creditor will need to call 1-900-555-WORK (1-900-555-9675) or use the following website http://www.theworknumber.com/.

If the lender/creditor has problems calling this number, they can call 1-800-367-5690 and have a credit card number ready.

In turn, your lender or creditor may immediately access the system and obtain your employment or salary information via the phone or a fax.

What hours is the sytem available?

The system is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How many authorization codes can be active and how long are they valid?

You can have a maximum of three codes active at any one time. Each code can only be used one time. Unused codes remain active for 6 months.

There Are Three Types of Verifications

Basic Contains:

Employee name

Employee social security number

Employment status

Employee's service computation date for retirement

Employee's total time with the Government

Employee's job title

Reference number for the verification

To authorize release of BASIC information, you do not need to provide an authorization code.
This verification is usually required for apartment rentals and reference checks.

Basic Plus All of the above, plus:

Salary rate

Pay frequency

This verification is usually required for small, short term loans.

Full All of the above, plus:

Gross earnings YTD and for the past 2 years

This verification is usually requred for all major loans, including mortgages.
