Beneficiary
Designation
of Beneficiary forms give you control over to whom you want an asset
paid. In the Federal sector,
each employee has the option of completing four separate designation of
beneficiary forms: 1. SF-2823 for
Federal employee’s Group Life Insurance (FEGLI); 2. TSP-3, Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) account
designation; 3. SF-1152 for payment of any unpaid compensation (including
lump sum annual leave payment); 4. SF-2808 (CSRS) or SF-3102 (FERS) for
refund of the amount paid into the retirement fund, assuming that no one
is eligible for a monthly survivor’s benefit. There is a standing order of precedence if no designation of beneficiary form has been completed:
Many
people assume that if they have a current will, they have taken care of
the issue. A will never
supersedes designations of beneficiary and would not come into play
until fourth in the standing order of precedence. Once you have completed a
Designation of Beneficiary form, it is valid and will be complied with
until it is canceled or superseded.
Employees have the responsibility of ensuring that their
designations are current, complete and accurate. Please keep this in mind with
every life event change. If
you have any questions about this, please contact Rhoda Chilcoat at
(202)482-1290 or via email at Rhoda.Chilcoat@mail.doc.gov.
Question: What travel expenses is a
traveler responsible for while on official
travel? Answer:
Travelers are responsible for those expenses over the
reimbursement limit established by GSA Federal Travel Regulations (FTR)
and authorized in the travel order.
Travelers will not be reimbursed for excess costs resulting from
circuitous routes, luxury accommodations or services unnecessary or
unjustified in the performance of official travel. If you have questions, please call
your travel contact or Sharon Russell at (202)482-3267.
