Applying and Eligibility

Prospective applicants should contact the American Embassy or Fulbright Commission in their home country for complete application details. A listing of eligible countries and the contact details of the relevant American Embassy or Fulbright Commission offices can be found on the Institute of International Education's Humphrey Program Website. Eligible candidates must have an undergraduate degree, five years of substantial professional experience, demonstrated leadership qualities, limited previous experience in the U.S., and a suitable level of English proficiency. Embassies and Fulbright Commissions conduct an initial review process and nominate candidates for further consideration by the Washington D.C. based selection panels. Final selections are approved by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Awards are announced in the spring for fellowships beginning in the fall.
