News Release 2008 CSP Sign-up Announced  (PDF; 143 KB)  (Last Modified 04/10/2008)

CSP is a voluntary program that provides financial and technical assistance to promote the conservation and improvement of soil, water, air, energy, plant and animal life, and other conservation purposes on Tribal and private working lands. Working lands include cropland, grassland and improved pasture, as well as, forested land that is an incidental part of an agriculture operation. The program is available in all 50 States, the Caribbean Area and the Pacific Basin area. The program provides equitable access to benefits to all producers, regardless of size of operation or crops produced.

The Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (2002 Farm Bill) (Pub. L. 107-171) amended the Food Security Act of 1985 to authorize the program. CSP is administered by USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

Eligibility Evaluation

The Eligibility Evaluation has eight questions that will help determine if pursuing CSP enrollment further is for you.  Remember as little as one field can be enrolled in CSP so the questions only need to be answered "yes"  or "not applicable" for a single field for you to be eligible.  The eligibility evaluation does not cover all aspects of eligibility.  It is intended to give you a quick snapshot, based on a few key indicators, as to whether or not you might qualify.  If after taking the eligibility evaluation you think you may qualify for CSP please get a copy of the full Self-Assessment Workbook online below or from your local NRCS office.  If you were not able to answer all questions with a "yes" or "not applicable", yet feel your operation may qualify, contact your local NRCS office.

Public Workshops

Find out more about CSP, attend one of the public information meetings in your watershed.  Information regarding dates, times, and locations will be posted here as they are scheduled.  You are encouraged to take the Eligibility Evaluation and get a self-assessment workbook online or from your local NRCS office before attending the meeting.

CSP Self-Assessment Workbook - On-Line!

Completing the Self-Assessment Workbook is a required part of the CSP application process.  You can down load a copy from this website or visit your local NRCS office for a copy.  The local NRCS office is available to answer any questions you have regarding the self-assessment workbook.  By going through the workbook, producers will get a good idea about whether they are eligible for CSP at this time. Producers who may not be eligible can find out about programs that can help them achieve a higher level of conservation so that they may apply for CSP in the future.
