CORRIGAN NAMED ACTING PRINCIPAL DEPUTY INSPECTOR GENERAL

Secretary Tommy G. Thompson announced today the appointment of Dara Corrigan of Baltimore as acting principal deputy inspector general for the Department of Health and Human Services.

Corrigan currently serves as the director of program integrity for HHS' Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), responsible for all enforcement activities and integrity functions regarding the Medicare program. She will assume the acting position in charge of the Office of Inspector General as of June 2.

"Dara has admirably served HHS and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services," Secretary Thompson said. "She will aggressively ensure that the Office of Inspector General continues to protect taxpayers from fraud and abuse."

Until January, Corrigan served as CMS' deputy chief counsel, working on nursing home quality of care, provider enrollment, fraud and abuse and Medicare secondary payment issues. Previously, she was an assistant United States attorney in the U.S. District Attorney's District of Columbia office and a trial attorney in the civil fraud section at the Department of Justice.

Corrigan earned a bachelor of arts degree from Baylor University and is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School.

The Office of Inspector General's (OIG) mission is to protect the integrity of HHS programs, as well as the health and welfare of the beneficiaries of those programs. The OIG's duties are carried out through a nationwide network of audits, investigations, inspections and other mission-related functions performed by OIG components.
