Tribal Consultation Advisory Committee (TCAC)
to the Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Office of the Director, CDC

Federal Advisory Committee (FACA Exempt)

Designated Federal Officer – Captain Pelagie (Mike) Snesrud

The Tribal Consultation Advisory Committee to the Director, shall advise the Director of CDC and Administrator of ATSDR, on policy issues and broad strategies that may affect American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) tribes and people. The TCAC will assist CDC in fulfilling its mission to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability through established and ongoing relationships and consultation sessions.  CDC honors the sovereignty of AI/AN governments, respects the inherent rights of self governance, commits to work on a government-to-government basis, and uphold the federal trust responsibility.  The TCAC provides a forum for meetings between CDC leadership and elected or appointed Tribal leaders (or their designated employees with authority to act on their behalf); as well as representatives of national Tribal organizations designated by Tribal leaders to act on their behalf, in compliance with the exemptions with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA).  The meetings will facilitate the exchange of views, information, or advice concerning the intergovernmental responsibilities in the implementation and/or administration of CDC programs, including those that arise explicitly or implicitly under statute, regulation or Executive Order. Such meetings include, but are not limited to, seeking consensus, exchanging views, information, advice, and/or recommendations, or facilitating any other interaction relating to intergovernmental responsibilities or administration.  Meetings may be face-to-face or via conference call. TCAC meetings will complement and not supplant the Tribal consultation process between CDC and the Tribes.
