Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization

What's New

Steps to a Healthier US

The Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization is pleased to support President George W. Bush's goal to help Americans live longer, better, and healthier lives. We believe small, minority, veteran, and women owned businesses, not to mention Historically Black Colleges (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MIs), have made significant contributions to improving the health of Americans and have a tremendous amount they can still offer to this cause. We are therefore encouraging small businesses participation in HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson's Steps to a Healthier US Initiative.

OSDBU would like to highlight and showcase the contributions of small businesses and minority institutions in the quest for a healthier us. We are therefore encouraging small businesses, not for profit organizations representing small businesses, HBCUs, and MIs to consider submitting an abstract which shares the accomplishments they have made in the areas of public health education campaigns and social and scientific research which have improved the health of American Citizens - especially in the area of health disparities. Information on the call for Abstracts is available at www.healtheirus.gov/steps/index.html Abstracts are due on October 31, 2003.

It is OSDBU's hope that through the exposure of demonstrated successes, small businesses, HBCUs and MIs will be provided a greater opportunity to do business with the Department and assist us in accomplishing this bold new initiative. If we take advantage of the talents and gifts of all Americans, together we can increase the chance that all Americans can live longer, better, and healthier lives!!
