Grant Applications due by 4 PM September 30th
The Lower-Emission School Bus Program (LESBP) is a partnership between the California Air Resources Board (ARB) and local air districts, and is administered locally by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District). The goals of the LESBP are to reduce the exposure of school children to harmful emissions of particulate matter (PM) and reduce emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC), which contribute to summertime smog. This grant program provides funding:
The Air District has approximately $11.6 million to allocate to LESBP projects in this funding cycle. Grant applications are due by 4 PM September 30th. Bus Replacement Bay Area public school districts that own and operate school buses, including under the provisions of a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA), are eligible to apply for bus replacement funds. Funds will first be awarded to replace pre-1977 buses, then 1977-1986 buses, in order of oldest first. Bus Retrofit Bay Area public school districts that own and operate school buses, including under the provisions of a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA), are eligible to apply for bus retrofit funds. In addition, school transportation companies that provide transportation services under contract to Bay Area public schools are eligible to apply for retrofit funds. Funding will be awarded on a competitive basis. Expected timetable for project applications and milestones:
