Proponent:  University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Geophysical Institute
Location: 71º 19' 23" N lat. 156º 36' 56" W long. (NAD83) see chart above; approximately 2 miles north at the 5 DME point on the VOR/DME RWY 24 approach course.
Altitudes: Surface up to and including 60,000 feet above ground level (AGL).
Times: Intermittent; August 4, 2004 thru Anugust 4, 2005
Surveillance Requirements: Radar to detect any aircraft within 11 nautical miles, surface to 60,000 feet, along with spotters with binoculars
Purpose: Participate in federally-sponsored climate-related research using laser-radar (lidar) to measure Arctic clouds and aerosols. Zenith-pointing lidar system will operate during selected periods in support of atmospheric research at the Department of Energy North Slope (NSA) site. The main observation period will be during the month-long M-PACE experiment at the NSA site during October 2004 with other week-long data collections anticipated every few months to observe other cloud conditions
