Workshop on Over-the-Counter Drug Use in Adolescents

A public workshop on "Adolescent Over-the-Counter (OTC) Drug Product Use" will be sponsored by FDA, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Consumer Healthcare Product Association (CHPA) on December 6 and 7, 2007.

The purpose of the workshop is to learn about current use of OTC drugs by adolescents, including their decision-making skills (as compared to adult skills), and other factors influencing their drug use.

Information gathered at the workshop and from submitted comments will be used to identify when it would be most appropriate to enroll adolescents in consumer studies on OTC drugs. In addition, the information will help define the type of consumer research and study designs needed to support OTC drug product approvals in adolescents.

The workshop will be held at the NIH Natcher Conference Center in Bethesda, Md. For more information, visit
