1. What is the Applicant Supply File (ASF)?
NIST collects applications or resumes for future job openings in a range of occupational areas. Applications are maintained in an automated Applicant Supply File (ASF) for a period of 90 days. Applicants are considered when filling a Direct Hire request.
2. How do I apply for vacancies at NIST?
Applications may be submitted at http://asf.nist.gov or through the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM's) USAjobs website at http://www.usajobs.opm.gov.
3. Can I submit my application via the postal service or by email?
No, applications are only accepted online.
4. Can I apply for more than one position with one application?
Yes, an applicant may apply for multiple series and paybands with one application.
5. Once I create my application, can I modify or add to it?
No, once you submit your application, you may not make any changes or modifications. You may, however, submit a new application with your updated information.
6. Is there a position description for a particular vacancy?
Since the ASF is a database that collects applications for potential vacancies, there are no position descriptions.
7. Who can I send my Knowledge, Skills & Ability (KSA) to?
KSAs are not accepted because the ASF is a database that only collects applications.
8. I am a veteran. What documentation do I need to provide?
Applicants claiming 5-point Veteran's Preference must submit their DD-214. Applicants claiming 10-point Veteran's Preference must submit their DD-214, a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs and form SF-15, Claim for 10-Point Veteran's Preference, with supporting documentation.
9. I am a permanent resident of the United States . Can I apply for a government job?
Only citizens of the United States may apply for government jobs.
