Limitation of Activity
In the National Health Interview Survey limitation of activity refers to a long-term reduction in a person’s capacity to perform the usual kind or amount of activities associated with his or her age group due to a chronic condition.
Limitation of activity is assessed by asking respondents a series of questions about limitations in their ability to perform activities usual for their age group because of a physical, mental, or emotional problem. Respondents are asked about limitations in activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, play, school, work, difficulty in walking or remembering, and any other activity limitations. For reported limitations, the causal health conditions are determined and respondents are considered limited if one or more of these conditions is chronic.
